What Does "The Courage to Begin Again" Mean to You?
A Life Coaching Perspective on Overcoming Obstacles & Resetting Your Goals
Courage: The moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Rather than the absence of fear, true courage is the ability to acknowledge fear or risk and act in accordance with your values despite it.
Did that statement make you pause?
If so, you’re not alone. Often, reading something like that immediately brings to mind the exact area in our lives that has been put on hold—the dream we walked away from hoping to return to later, or the goal we gave up on completely.
Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
Reading that definition often triggers an instant realization. Right away, you recognize the exact part of your life that has been set aside, put on pause, or given up on altogether.
-
The Stalled Business: You started a venture with passion, but it isn’t growing quite like you had hoped.
-
The Project on Hold: That ongoing plan to declutter and become more organized? Are those three crates set out for the project still sitting there—empty, half-full, or creating even more clutter?
-
The Unbalanced Budget: You look at it monthly and make adjustments, yet somehow, spending continues to outstrip income.
-
There are times in our lives when we are completely overwhelmed by the tasks before us and we just don’t know where to begin. We want everything done at once, but that’s not how life works, is it?
What Is Really Standing in Your Way?
What obstacles keep appearing when you try to achieve your goals? So often, it isn't a lack of resources—it's a mindset. It's a defeating narrative playing on a loop in our minds, setting us up for failure before we even get rolling.
Do any of these internal statements or questions resonate with you?
-
"Why bother?"
-
"I'm just not an entrepreneur."
-
"I’m not a disciplined person—never was, and I’ll never change!"
-
"Where do I begin? I'm overwhelmed."
-
"Is this the right direction for me at this time?"
To break through those negative feedback loops, ask yourself these two questions:
-
The Six-Month Vision: If you resolved this exact issue six months from now, what would your life look like?
-
. The Friend Test: What advice would you give a close friend who came to you with this exact same struggle? (We are almost always kinder and more encouraging to others than we are to ourselves!)
When tasks stack up, it’s easy to feel completely overwhelmed. We want everything done at once, but that isn't how lasting change works. True transformation happens step by step.
